Ghetto murals look better than gray walls!

It seems these days residents are taking back their walls in growing numbers.
In the past few weeks we have seen NPA's illegal ads in
LA targeted by Eddie Colla,
and unidentified residents resulting in the removal
of over 20 billboards for public communications.
And then there was this pinwheel project by an
unknown artist in New York not more than a week ago.
And now this recent image comes to us from
Unurth with no one to lay praise on.
Has the world gone mad or has the public taken its
responsibility more seriously?
It would seem that latter as NPA's illegal signage
is being targeted in droves.
Now if only we would see the city respond to
these actions in the appropriate manner and begin
the removal of all NPA ad frames, or even better,
their conversion to public messaging boards!

Texas Board Of Education Declare Hip Hop Is Not A Cultural Movement

Members of the Texas State Board of Education gave preliminary approval Friday to remove significant areas of curriculum from civil rights and global politics and replace them with conservative historic figures and beliefs. Courses that would be affected by these changes include social studies, history and economics.

One of the subjects debated amongst the lawyers, dentists and publishers, who make up the board, was whether or not Hip Hop should be taught as a cultural movement. According to the Huffington Post, right wing members voted that Hip Hop should be deleted as a requirement and that students should not be taught about its cultural impact across not only the United States, but the world.

Conservatives also approved to have a sociological focus on institutional racism and its presence in American society banned from the books, as well as removing important references of Latino and Hispanic figures throughout history.

The Texas State Board of Education approved of the new expectations with a 10-5 vote, and a final decision is expected to be made in May, but not before holding an open forum where the public can produce additional arguments and even possibly, different amendments to stop some of the changes from being implemented.

If the amendments are approved, the changes to the content will affect learning nationwide because most school textbooks are published in Texas and would be taught to millions of students for the next 10 years.

‘Clean City’: São Paulo Scrubbed of Outdoor Ads

It isn't news that Sao Paulo has been outdoor ad free since 2007.
What I found interesting is that surveys had found an incredibly agreeable public.
"While advertisers weren’t too happy about the law
– $8 million in fines were levied against
those who dawdled in taking ads down, and Clear Channel
launched an unsuccessful campaign to raise support
for putting them back up
– the citizens clearly approve.
Surveys found that at least 70% are happy with the change."

Outdoor advertising is so ubiquitous in almost every urban setting around the world,
it’s difficult to
walk down a street,
take an escalator or
sit on a bench
without getting slapped in the face with one product or another.
But the city of São Paulo, Brazil is like an advertising ghost town:
all of its billboards stand oddly blank and empty.

Slussen is part of the Stockholm underground and subway and have for years been known as a nice spot for urban exploration, the artists Adams even published a book describing the location called Holes, Huts and Hidings.

Check out the two nice videos below of two swedish journalists that explore Slussen a few years ago after reading Adams book. The videos show the whole area inside Slussen and is with english subtitles.
